SAP Concur

As a designer on the SAP Concur digital marking team, everything we do revolves around improving the company’s digital presence. The website is where we spend the majority of our time, using programs such as Figma, Sketch, and XD. We also work hard to achieve and maintain close relationships with our development team in order to make our ideas come to life, drive user engagement, user understanding, and general usability across the site. Below, you can find a couple of the bigger, noteworthy projects we’ve been able to create and execute.

I redesigned the client side of SAP Concur’s resource center to be easier for users to consume content, look consistent across different resource types, and be designed on a modular grid system. The modular grid supports the resource center being dynamic as the user requests different amounts of content. Visit the case study to learn all about my process!

Form re-design redesign SAP Concur interaction design UX User Experience Interface Alex Van Gilder

With forms being present on nearly every page, it’s important that the forms are inviting enough to make users want to fill them out. I redesigned the forms to occupy less visual space, be more responsive to user interaction, and simplified form fields that eliminated confusing user experiences. Blurred for NDA reasons! As companies grow, being able to manage design becomes increasingly difficult. Design systems allow you to manage design at scale. A design system has core design elements that are arranged in different ways to create unique, cohesive designs. Think of a design system like Mexican food; with the same eight ingredients, you’re able to create over fifty delicious dishes! I am able to share some live examples what kind of pages our design system can create: here is an example of an all products page, here is an example of a PPC (pay per click) page, and here is an example of a hypesite we made to convince the business that it was worth while to invest the design system!

Blurred for NDA reasons! Test, test, test, and then test again. In an ongoing effort to increase engagement across the site, running tests are the best way to try ideas. Testing allows us to try ideas that seem to come out of left field and see if they have any validity. Those results are then taken into account as we try to improve user experience while increasing engagement. We’ve also developed a system that lets us move even faster with homepage tests where we do the front end development ourselves. This self-reliance allows us to move fast when a test doesn’t match our hypothesis. Yay for testing!

Corporate Art Direction Designer User Experience User Interface Alex Van Gilder

Occasionally, we have on-location photo shoots for images that we can use across the brand. We do this so that we don’t have to rely on stock photography, and our images are cohesive with the brand. I was able to art direct one of these photoshoots for images that would work specifically work on the website. *Original format has been modified to fit this format.
